Recipe #14 Swiss Steak

My dad will make this every once in a while and when he does it is amazing! He said his mom made it for him when he was a kid! I decided to try and make it to be like my Hungarian family! It is pretty easy but getting the steak is the tricky part... you need 2 pounds of round steak, if you go to a store that has a meat department ask them if they can tenderize it for you... it makes it alot easier and not as messy!!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • garlic to taste
  • 2 pounds round steak, tenderize
  • 1 celery stalk, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. In a bowl, mix the flour, salt and pepper, and garlic. Dredge the steaks in the flour mixture, if you don't have the meat tenderize yet take a meat tenderizer and beat the flour into the seak before placing in the skillet.
  2. Add celery, green pepper, onion, and tomatoes. Turn heat down to a low.
  3. Cover, and cook until meat is fully cooked and tender. Depending on how thick the meat is you buy it could take up to an 1 and a alf hours.
Serve with noodles, rice, or whatever else you would what too!!!

 BON APPETIT!!
