Recipe #41 Steak tips with mushroom gravy

This recipe was given to me from my boyfriends mom in a cook book that she gave me for my birthday. It is like a beef stroganoff recipe but the sauce is so much better than a traditional sauce. It has so much flavor. I served it with buttered egg noodles.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 pounds sirloin steak tips, cut into chunks
  • 1/4 ounce dried porcini mushrooms, rinsed
  • 1 3/4 cup beef broth
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 pound (16 oz) white mushrooms, stems trimmed and sliced.
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 teaspoons flour
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 tablespoon parsley

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Combine soy sauce and sugar with the steak. Toss well. Marinate for 30 minutes.
  2. Cover porcini mushrooms with 1/4 cup borth in a small microwave bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and poke holes in the top. Microwave for 30 seconds. Let stand in bowl for 5 minutes. Lift mushrooms out of liquid and mince and then set aside. Set aside liquid as well.
  3. Sprinkle meat with 1/2 teaspoon of pepper. Add 1 tablespoon of oil to a pan and heat on medium high. Add steak and brown for 7 to 8 minutes. Remove steak but leave the juice.
  4. Add last tablespoon of oil white mushrooms, minced porcini, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Cook for 7 to 9 minutes.
  5. Add onion and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Cook for 6 minutes. Add flour, garlic, and thyme and cook for 1 minute.
  6. Stir in remaining beef broth and porcini soaking liquid and bring to a boil.
  7. Add the steak and parsley and cook for 5 minutes.
  8. Serve with noodles.
BON APPETIT!!!
