Recipe #46 Apple Pie

One of the best desserts to make in the fall/winter time is a homemade apple pie! Yummy! Just typing about it makes my mouth water. I used granny smith apples because it makes the apple pie have a little tart favorite to it.

INGREDIENTS:

For 2 pie crust

  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 8 to 10 tablespoons of cold water
For apple pie filling

  • 6 cups thinly sliced, peeled, and cored apples (whatever you like)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • milk
  • sugar

DIRECTIONS:

For crust

  1. Mix together the flour and salt. Set aside.
  2. With a blender chop up the shortening until it is pea size balls. Combine.
  3. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of water over the flour mixture and toss gently. Keep doing this until you get to 8 or 10 table spoon until it is moist.
  4. Divide the mixture in half.
  5. Roll the mixture out with a glass or a rolling pin. Sprinkle with flour when it starts to get too sticky.
  6. Take one of the rolled out pieces of dough and place in the bottom of a 9 inch pie plate.
For Apple pie filling

  1. Preheat oven to 375. Sprinkle cut up apples with lemon juice. Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl and then pour over apples. Sprinkle until apples are evenly coated with mixture.
  2. Place apples in a lined pie plate.
  3. Place 2nd pastry dough over top and pitch the sides of it together all the way around the pie.
  4. Take a little of the milke and sugar and brush the top of the pie.
  5. Bake for 60 minutes.

BON APPETIT!
